Microneedling for Pitted Acne Scars: Is RF Microneedling the Right Fix?
By The Facial Room | July 29, 2026

A lot of people find us because they want that same “glowing” skin feeling after a treatment, but they’re also dealing with pitted acne scars that makeup can’t hide. RF Microneedling can meaningfully improve mild-to-moderate pitted (atrophic) acne scars by stimulating collagen remodeling and resurfacing the skin, but it usually takes a series of 3 to 6 sessions and it works best when your acne is calm and stable. If you’re in Grapevine and you want real texture change without signing up for weeks of downtime, it’s often a strong option.
Why pitted acne scars feel so stubborn (and why products hit a wall)
Pitted acne scars are usually an “indentation” problem, not a surface dryness problem. That’s why the best serum in your cabinet can make your skin look healthier, but the dips and uneven texture still show up in certain lighting. Rolling scars and shallow boxcar scars tend to look like soft waves or shallow edges across the cheeks. Icepick scars are deeper and narrower, and they often need a different plan or a combo approach.
And we get it, you’re busy. A lot of locals around the DFW corridor want something that fits into real life. If you’re squeezing appointments between school runs, weekend errands near Grapevine Mills, or travel days, scar treatments have to be realistic on timing and recovery, not just “effective on paper.”
How RF Microneedling changes pitted texture (collagen induction therapy microneedling, explained)
RF Microneedling is microneedling therapy with an added step: radiofrequency energy. The tiny needles create controlled micro-injuries, and the RF heat is delivered into the skin at the same time. The goal is collagen remodeling. Think of it as encouraging your skin to rebuild support underneath areas that look “collapsed, ” which is what gives atrophic acne scars that pitted look.
This is why it’s often most rewarding for rolling scars and shallow boxcar scars. Deep icepick scars can improve too, but they usually need more than one tool to get the kind of change you’re hoping for. We’ll talk through that honestly in your consult, because overpromising helps nobody.
Reality check that matters: most people see progressive improvement, not an overnight erase. A typical plan is 3 to 6 sessions, spaced about 4 to 8 weeks apart, so your skin has time to rebuild.
We’re big on education during treatment. People tell us they appreciate that we take time to consult first, explain what we’re doing, and give clear aftercare, because the “what do I do now?” part affects your final result.
“The staff at The Facial Room were not only professional but also incredibly knowledgeable about skincare. Before my facial, the esthetician took the time to consult with me, understanding my skin type, concerns, and preferences.”

Another reason RF Microneedling gets picked for microneedling for skin rejuvenation is texture plus tone. We see a lot of people who want scars to soften, but they also want that smoother, more even look across the whole face, especially on the cheeks where old breakouts like to leave a mark.
Downtime in real life: 2 to 7 days, plus Grapevine sun rules
Downtime is usually 2 to 7 days. Expect redness and sometimes pinpoint scabbing. Most people are fine being out and about, but you might not love how your skin looks for a couple days. If you work in-person, we’ll help you time it so you’re not doing RF Microneedling right before an event.
Sun protection is not optional after resurfacing treatments. In the DFW corridor, July sun is intense, and post-treatment skin is more vulnerable to discoloration if you’re unprotected. We’ll go over the basics like staying out of direct sun, using a true broad-spectrum SPF, and skipping tanning and heavy heat exposure for a bit.
Quick scheduling tip: if you’re shopping or working near Grapevine Mills or the Texan Trail retail corridor, RF Microneedling is popular because the downtime is usually short enough to plan around a normal week.
Is RF Microneedling right for your acne scars, or should we pivot?
RF Microneedling tends to be a great fit if your acne is not actively inflamed and your main goal is improving texture and firmness. People come in wanting their skin to look smoother in photos, feel more even under their fingertips, and stop fixating on cheek texture in bathroom lighting.
If you have active cystic acne, we usually slow down and get you stable first. And if your scars are very deep, we may talk about combining approaches over time, like pairing RF microneedling with a targeted peel schedule, subcision, or filler in specific areas.
A note on darker skin tones and hyperpigmentation
RF Microneedling can be appropriate for many skin tones, but post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is still something we take seriously. If you’re prone to dark marks after breakouts, let us know. We’ll assess settings, prep, and aftercare carefully, and we’ll be extra strict about sun protection.
Why locals around Grapevine Mills trust our microneedling facial approach
We’re not a revolving-door spot. Our team is known for being thorough, gentle, and genuinely invested in your skin improving over time. People mention how clean and calming the space feels, and that we follow up after appointments, which isn’t something everyone does.
We also keep it practical. You’ll get clear next steps, not a confusing list of “maybe” add-ons. If RF Microneedling is the right move, we’ll map out a series and explain what we’re trying to change each round. If a different treatment makes more sense first, we’ll say that too.
“Im a frequent customer and I love the experience here. I first came for the hydrafacials a year ago and Flor has done such great job that I kept coming back! I’m now doing microneedling and I’ve been seeing such good results.”

RF Microneedling + PRP, fillers, peels: when combinations make sense
Some scar patterns respond best to a combination plan. RF microneedling does a lot of heavy lifting for overall texture and collagen support, but certain scars need a little extra. For example, tethered rolling scars can respond well when subcision is part of the plan, and very deep indents sometimes look better with a small amount of filler placed strategically.
PRP is another add-on some people ask about. It can be paired with microneedling in some settings to support recovery and glow, but it isn’t a magic substitute for correct depth, correct spacing, and consistent sessions. We’ll walk you through what makes sense for your skin and your budget, and we won’t push a combo just to make a ticket bigger.
